Internship
Take the opportunity to gain your first experience in inland shipping. You’ll get to know everyday work on board, support daily tasks, and gain valuable insights into various activities on a ship.
Deckhand Apprentice
During your 3 to 3.5-year apprenticeship, you’ll acquire nautical and technical know-how as well as teamwork skills – the foundation for your successful start on board. You’ll learn all the key procedures essential to smooth ship operations.
Sailor/Helmsman without license
As part of the crew, you ensure that everything runs smoothly on board – from maintenance work and loading/unloading to supporting navigation and safety. With growing experience, you’ll take on more responsibility and independently manage certain processes during your shifts on behalf of the captain. Obtaining the radio certificate (VHF) is an important step towards safe and professional communication on the water. Step by step, you’ll grow into more responsible roles and lay the foundation for your maritime career.
Intermediate Step – License Acquisition
By obtaining a higher nautical license (EU license, Grootvaarbewijs, or an equivalent certificate), you gain the qualification to safely steer vessels and operate in international waters.
Helmsman with license
In this position, you contribute your certified expertise in navigation, technology, and crew management. You assist in route planning, monitor ship operations, and support the captain with operational and logistical tasks. With your know-how, you ensure efficient and safe operations on board.
Intermediate Step:
Rhine License, Radar, ADN
Specializing in the Rhine license, radar navigation, and the ADN certificate enables you to navigate specific waterways safely and efficiently. The ADN certifies you as a specialist in the transport of dangerous goods on inland waterways. These qualifications expand your career opportunities and make you an expert for diverse shipping routes.
Captain
As a captain, you lead the entire vessel and are responsible for the safety of the crew and cargo. You make strategic decisions, manage operations on board, and ensure smooth ship management throughout.
